LET THE FUN BEGIN:
We have just signed the lease for Brooklyn Girl Eatery. We can't wait to start construction and open for business. We have started to meet so many wonderful "neighbors" in the hood. People have been stopping by to say hello and welcome us to the area.
Hung out with the Friday Farmer's Market gang-loved the local artisanal
produce and creative products displayed there.

Happy New Year to one and all.  This year's celebration was bigger and more sensational then the past few New Years.  It appears that everyone is heading into the New Year with high expectations and optomistic thoughts.  There was much toasting, laughter and positive energy to guide us into 2011.  Cheers to everyone and wishing you all the best.

An insiders viewpoint

I wanted to share a fun article that was posted in the New York Times yesterday.  It gives a provocative litany of the inner workings of the restaurant business and hopefully sheds some relevance to the importance of the reservation system.

 

Featured cheesecake recipe and photo

The Beer Connoisseur magazine has just featured a picture and recipe from "The Best Beer Dinner" ever presented at Trattoria Acqua. One hundred guest enjoyed a multi-course menu studded with dishes paired with local beers from 3 of San Diego's most notable breweries: Ale Smith, Ballast Point and The Lost Abbey. A match made in Heaven!

Our dear friend, Brandon Hernandez created a spectacular menu and worked with our whiz kid, Executive Chef Hugo Lee to bring his vision to fruition.  Heather (Brandon's wife) and I had the difficult task of sitting at the bar and pre-tasting all the delicious courses.

This delicious creation is Brandon's chocolate cheesecake with imperial stout chocolate ganache and vanilla vodka chantilly.  The recipe can be found at www.thebeerconnosseur.com

Guess who's coming to dinner

The New York Connection:

Direct flight from NYC to La Jolla for dinner at Trattoria Acqua.  Stranger things have happened over the last 18 years.  Sean Bogdany and his lovely wife flew in to enjoy their anniversary dinner at Acqua on the recommendation of "co-workers."  Conversing with them further it was established that Sean works for Mayor Bloomberg!  We are flattered and
privileged to have such lofty praise and delighted to make new friends in the process.  

We are so gratified when we can create a memorable experience in someones life and share in a joyous and special celebration.  Sean and his wife are expecting a baby in the upcoming months.  We look forward to meeting the baby when we visit them in NY.

Since the age of 5 our son Josh has been in and around all aspects of the restaurant business.  Having absorbed all he could from mom and dad at Fio's and Trattoria Acqua he moved on to management at Oceanaire in downtown San Diego.  This is a picture of Josh on his last day as 
Manager at Oceanaire as the crew shows their deep regards with Pie in the face, and just about everywhere else.

He starts at Ruth's Chris this Monday on their management team. Congratulations to our son!
